Guide to choose skincare product

November 05, 2016

In today’s market, you can see the tons of beauty products with varieties of brand and choosing the right product might be quite difficult for you.
But, don’t worry here is a quick guide and some tips to choose the right products.

Know your skin type
What is your skin type? Have you ever bought the product according to your skin type? This is the most important matter to be considered before buying a product. Knowing your skin type and following the correct skin care routine can actually help you to get beautiful and glowing skin. Not only that, but you can save your money by investing on the right product.
To find your actual skin type, wash your face with clean water, remove your entire make up and then wait for an hour to see your skin condition. You may fall under any of the categories.

Normal- People under this category have supple, smooth, well and even skin tone.
Oily- People under this category have greasy skin, large pores on nose area and have shiny looking skin.
Dry- If your skin looks dry, feels tight, have dry patches and have lack of natural oil then you have dry skin.
Combination- If you have all the above mixed elements, then you have combination skin. This type of skin has only T-zone and other parts normal to dry.
Sensitive skin:  If you have irritated and highly chemical reacted skin, then you have sensitive skin.
Acne-prone skin: People under this category have pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and have large pores on their skin.

Choose the product
Now, after you finally know your skin type, follow these routine while grabbing a product.

Normal skin – If you have normal skin, you are the lucky one, since you don’t have to be too much attentive while buying a product. Just pick a product that is for normal or all skin types.

Oily skin- If you have oily skin, use oil free product and better exfoliate your skin twice a week to give excess facial oil at bay. Use gel, light, thin lotion and liquid based product. And for cleansing, use soap free products.

Dry skin – If you have dry skin, choose a product in a rich cream based and contains aloe/moisturizer. Don’t use face wash, instead of that just use mild cleanser that is cream based. After washing your face, don’t forget to use a moisturizer. And if possible don’t use power on your skin as it will even make your skin dry. You can also use moisturizing serum which gives your skin extra moisture. You can use Body shop vitamin E serum which I have mentioned on my previous post.

Combination skin- Caring for combination skin might be quite tricky since you have oily, dry and normal parts in your skin. If it’s possible use two different products for oily and dry parts. You can also buy tons of products available in the market, which is made for combination skin. While applying the product, first apply to the dry parts and tap the remaining amount on the oily parts of your face, just to control the excess oil.

Sensitive Skin – If you have sensitive skin, look for product that are fragrance free and contains no harsh chemicals. And if possible test the product on other body parts before applying directly in the face.
Acne-prone skin- If you have acne-prone skin, you need to be extra attentive while choosing a product. Use gentle cleanser and use dermatological product for best result. Buy a product that contains salicylic acid as it has anti-acne properties.

Some basic tips to choose skin care products
-          Whether it’s sunny day or winter, always apply sunscreen
-          Don’t look for the jar packaging product
-          It’s not always true that high price product gives you the best result. Individual results may vary, as we all have different skin tone. Buy the product that suits you and give you the best result.
-          Buy the product according to your age group. If your skin is matured, you will definitely need an extra care for your skin.
-          Don’t judge the product by its packaging, look for the quality ingredients
-          Always check the date and look for reviews of the product that you are buying, it can actually help to waste your money on worthless product.
-          You should experiment with new products over time

Knowing your actual skin type can actually help you to cure it in the right way. And in addition, follow the above simple tips to choose the best product and make yourself and your skin happy.

Review: L'Oreal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water

October 23, 2016
Hello Beautiful,

Who doesn’t love to wear makeup and look beautiful? But, putting on makeup is not only the thing, removing it clearly is equally important. I can’t go into bed at night without removing my makeup and clearing the entire residue. So, today I am going to review the L’oreal  Paris micellar water, which I have bought from the store. I have been using this for more than 3 months and now I can’t wait more to share my experience with this product.
L'Oreal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Review

Price: NRs. 690 for 200ml

Product details:  A high performance, hypoallergenic cleansing water.
-           -So effective, it removes all traces of make-up and impurities with no need to rub and rinse.
-           -So delicate on the skin, it soothes the most sensitive skin. Skin feels immediately smoother and more toned with no tight and greasy feeling.

Product claims: Removes make-up purifies and soothes skin. Micellar water swiftly dissolves make-up and captures pore-clogging impurities in just one gentle action causing no stress to the skin.

L'Oreal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Packaging

Experience: When I first saw this product, I didn’t have such expectation that it would do something good to my skin. The product packaging is normal and the texture seems to be just like water with no fragrance at all. I used it by tapping a cotton pad and slightly swiping it over my face, it removes all the makeup and residue. I don’t use heavy makeup, so make up removes very easily, but for those who put on lots of make up, you should have to do few extra wipes to clear out your entire makeup. After using it, skin feels very clean and refreshed and also gives you a moisturized feeling. I used it twice a day, morning and evening and now it have been my regular cleansing routine. I use it not only for removing make up but also as a moisturize toner. So, beside make up remover I love it more as a soft cleanser. It does not break me out and skin feels soft after its application. But because of its packaging and large bottle, it’s really not a travel friendly, wish this would have come in a smaller bottle with spray headJ. And also it is very difficult to dispense the product from a hole dispenser.

This product is so light that you don’t have to worry about your skin even when you used this on a daily basis. I have a combination and sensitive skin and this product has totally worked for me.

Pros:
-Removes all make up and impurities
-Soften the skin
-Does not break out
-Cleanse skin without harsh rubbing
-Have no smell and harsh chemical
-Skin does not feel tight
-Work as a soft cleanser

Cons:
-Dispensing the product is difficult
-Packaging is not that portable

Overall: Mostly I love the fact that it is for sensitive skin and it really does what it claims, so I am already on my second bottle. I would recommend everyone to try this once with whatever skin tone you have since this is suitable for any skin type.

My Rating: 4.75/5

Review: The Body Shop Tree Tea Oil

September 29, 2016

Hello everyone,

Who else doesn’t get annoyed when it comes to blemish skin? These days I am having a few small pimples on my skin. To get rid of this, I bought this tree tea oil from the TBS brand which I have heard as a very good product. I have used this product quite often time, so today I am going to review about this product.

The Body Shop Tree Tea Oil Review

Product description and claims by The Body Shop: The tree tea oil, which has antibacterial properties, is made from the Melaleuca alternifolia plant, so also know as melaleuca oil.

-Target blemish, remove impurities and mattify the skin
-Contains 15% tea tree oil concentrate.
-Clinically proven to give visibly clearer-looking skin in a week

The Body Shop Tree Tea Oil description

Price: NRs.1990 for 20ml

Shelf life: You can check the manufacturing date through the batch code and its PAO (Period after opening) time is 12 months.

Key Ingredients: Contains pure leaf essential oil, made with hand-harvested leaves and gently steam-distilled.

How to use: Apply small portion directly on the blemish area using cotton pad or clean fingertips.

My Experience of using this product: I have a combination skin with an oily T-zone; due to which sometime I noticed few pimples on my face. So, I bought this product from one of my favorite brand The Body Shop. I had always a good experience with this brand so I stick into it even though the price is really on a high side. I thought to buy the small bottle, but unluckily that was out of stock so I had to buy the 20ml bottle.

This product comes in tiny greenish color glass bottle with a twist cap on top which has a very good locking mechanism. The product looks really cute and has very freshly, strong mint smell. To use this, I took a portion in my finger tips, and tap it over the pimple area. It gives an irritating feeling with cooling effect which last only for a few second. At morning, the pimple seems to be reduced but not totally. I use it continuously every morning and night, but I don’t feel any changes in my pimples area. I didn’t even use any other products over that area so that this product could work effectively. But, this product has laid down my expectations. This does nothing for my pimples and also doesn’t work what it claims. I wonder how other people have a good review about this product. May be this is not for my skin type.

Pros:
Can be used as makeup removers, since it has antibacterial properties

Cons:
Doesn’t work for pimple
Difficult to take out the product
Very expensive

Overall: I would definitely do not recommend anyone to try this product.

My personal rating: 0.5/5

September 08, 2016

Hello everyone,

The Body Shop Vitamin E cream cleanser shelf life details

The Body Shop Vitamin E cream cleanser batch code

Experience: I bought this when I felt like my face was a bit drying and dirty because of travelling. Body shop has always been one of my favorite brands when it comes to skin and body care products. So I choose this cleanser which has vitamin E elements. I mostly use it when I have to travel, generally once a week. The product texture is whitish in color, soft and light with very mild fragrance. Before cleansing my whole face, I take a pea size in cotton pad and wipe off my eyes and lip area where we have lots of makeup because I don’t want to mess up make up all over my face while cleansing my face. After that I take a small portion and slightly massage my skin upwards and outwards until all my makeup seems clean and after that I wipe off with the cotton pad. I love the cool feeling it gave to my skin and how it makes my skin feel fresh, clean and soft. But the only drawback is that the effect does not last long, you have to use moisturizer after using this product or else it will make your skin dry after an hour. You can also apply this on a daily basis, as this cleanser is really mild and does not break you out on regular use.

My likes:
Does not break me out
Makes my skin clean and soft
Clean all impurities with small portion
Product packaging is quite cute and flip opening is really hygienic
The product is fragrance free and very mild
Contains Vitamin E
Non-greasy

My Dislikes:
Expensive (But last long)
The effect does not last long

Some Tips:
While buying cleanser, for dry skin –avoid foaming cleanser and use cream based which moisturize and soothe your skin. For combination skin, you can use gel, lotion and use something that is very mild. For oily skin, use foaming or gel based formula and for sensitive or acne-pro skin, you fragrance free and preservatives ones.
Avoid using cleanser with alcohol, fragrance and parabens, as these chemicals are not good for the skin
Use that has essential oils and natural ingredients
Don’t rub your skin vigorously upwards and downward as you make loose the elasticity of your skin
Don’t forget to check the check the expiry date. ;)

Overall: I like this product, but wish this would have come in a smaller bottle as a travelling package.

My overall Rating: 4.5/5

Review: Organic Harvest Exfoliating Face Scrub

August 30, 2016

Hello Lovelies,

Do you have the habit to scrub your face? And do you think it’s necessary? Of course it is. Every day your skin has to face different product, air pollution and sun rays and coming in contact with those things mean dull, dry and unhealthy skin. So, apart from cleansing, moisturizing, toning scrubbing your face also plays a vital role in maintaining your skin condition (PH balance) . And today I am going to review the “Organic Harvest Exfoliating Face Scrub”.

Organic Harvest Exfoliating Face Scrub Review

Organic harvest, the brand is known for its Eco-friendly nature and purely organic and natural ingredients. This brand has been newly entered into the Nepalese market and there are various product ranges available from this brand. They claim their products to be free from parabens, mineral oils and animal ingredients.

Product details:
PH balance formula with olive oil derivative and nature certified, natural plant and derived active with natural moisturizing factors. It contains irregular shaped granules, which are soft enough to prevent scratches on the skin.

Price: Rs.850 Nepalese rupees for 50 gms (The price encoded on the bottom of this product is Indian price)

Packaging: This comes in a light transparent plastic tub with screw lid on top and extra inner plastic cover to prevent from spillage.

Expire Date: Most of the face scrubs have 2-3 years expiry date.

Organic Harvest Exfoliating Face Scrub

Skin type: This product can be used by any skin type

Product Claims:
This brand claims their product to be earth-friendly and free from harsh chemicals (No color added)
 Removes dull surface cells
Gently removes black heads, white heads and dead cells
Prevent skin damage
Enhance fairness with flawless satin finish.

Key Ingredients: Aqua, Olive oil, Beet root extract, Corn Starch, Lime, Essential oil, in cream based.

How to apply: Wash your face and apply small portion in wet face and massage gently all over the face, especially on the T-zone and nose areas where you have most of black/white heads. Don’t rub it too harshly as your skin layer is very sensitive. Use it once a week for normal skin and 2 times for damaged and dull skin, but don’t use it daily as it can rip off your natural oil. Massage it for 2-3 minutes and leave it for 5 minutes and wash it off. Use moisturizer after using this scrub.

Organic Harvest Exfoliating Face Scrub Texture

My Experience: During the summer, my combination skin starts to get oily in the T-zone area and makes my skin dull and damaged. The first impression about this product for me is, it looks amazing, and those mint blue color fine granules’ makes it even more appealing. After cleansing my face and washing off with water, I take a small portion and rub gently over my skin. It feels soft, smooth and easily to apply, but the smell is really strong. I massage it gently for about 2-3 minutes and let it stay for about 5 minutes and wash it off. On the first usage, my skin feels refreshed, glowing and it keeps my skin oil at bay. I love the feeling whenever I used this product. I used it once in a week and especially when I have to travel that this product is my most essential kit. It’s already been more than a month that I have been using this product as you can see the quantity left in the tub. About its claims, it definitely removes the dull surface and enhances fairness, but removing whitehead is just the temporary solution as you will start noticing whiteheads after certain days. And about blackhead removal, I can’t say as I don’t have blackheads. I wish this product comes in a tube packaging as tub packaging is not hygienic but I am satisfied with the product result and I think you should also try once and see the difference it can make to your skin.

My likes about the product:
Did not break me out
Does not dry out skin after use
Makes skin soft and fresh
Enhance fairness
Removes dull surface
No harshness on skin
Free from harsh chemicals (Natural made)
Removes white heads (Temporary)

My Dislikes about the product:
Doesn’t smell good
Tub packaging and dipping finger is not hygienic (You can use spatula)

Conclusion: Overall, I love the experience of using this product and I think this can be used by any skin type. And I would definitely repurchase it again once I will finish this tub. Hurry up lovelies, the product is worth buying.

Overall Rating: 4.5/5

Review: The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Lotion SPF 15

August 22, 2016

My skin type: Combination Skin(oily T-zone)
Age               : 25
Skin tone      : Fair

Hello beautiful,
I am here with the review of another product from TBS “VITAMIN E MOISTURE LOTION SPF 15 “

I usually don’t prefer using sunscreen separately, so when I saw this moisturizer with SPF product, I really want to give it a try. After using it for 5 weeks, I would like to share my personal experience about this product.

Price – Rs. 1890 for 50 ml (Nepalese rupees)

Product description
All in one conditioning moisturisation for all skin types with vitamin E and UV protection. Helps protect skin against environmental damages and prevent the signs of premature skin ageing.

Shelf life
You can check the shelf life through the batch code encoded on the bottom of the product. Once you open it you have to finish it before 12 months as indicated in the PAO symbol.

The Body Shop Vitamin E moisture lotion SPF 15 batch code

The Body Shop Vitamin E moisture lotion Shelf life

Packaging
The packaging is really traveled friendly and the flip lid on top makes it easier to use and maintain a good hygiene. But it is difficult to find out the left quantity.

My experience
Moisturizer is one of my daily routine habits and my favorite skin care products. That’s why I love trying out different moisturizer. The main thing I like about this product is its packaging. The texture of this product is quite thick with a heavy fragrance.
During the first apply; it doesn’t feel like a moisturizer at all, it’s so heavy and thick on the skin. Honestly, I don’t like the feeling it gave to my skin after applying. It gives very greasy and gives shiner looks even after hours of application. The pea size amount is enough for the whole face and don’t think that over application will make your skin more moisturized, the more you apply, the more you will feel greasy.
After few weeks of application, I don’t find any changes and improvement in my skin; whereas few small pimples started appearing on my skin. I really feel sad that the TBS product gave me such an experience. About its environmental damage claims, I think dirt will stick more on your face after its application. And about the prevention of premature sign of ageing, I don’t think it does any kind of wonder.
From my experience I think this product is definitely not for me. For those who have oily skin, don’t ever think of giving it a try.

Pros:
-      Contain  SPF
-      Travel friendly
-       Hygienic packaging

Cons:
-          Do not moisturized skin
-          Very expensive
-          Gives greasy affect
-          Heavy texture
-          Does not do what is claims
-          Heavy fragrance (I don’t prefer fragrance on skin care products)
-          Very sticky

Conclusion: Personally, I don’t find this product work out well, might this is not for my skin type. So, I don’t recommend this product as it is very expensive and doesn’t do what it claims.

My Rating: 1/5

Review: The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Serum

August 12, 2016

Hello beautiful,

This is my first review and I am so excited to review about the TBS product “Vitamin E Moisture serum “
A product with better moisture is what I am always looking for. Since I have combination skin, some parts of my face have dry patches, for which I have been searching for the best product to get rid of it.  This product contains intense moisture and that is the main reason that I thought to give this a try. Now, it’s been around 10 weeks and I could really see some changes.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Serum Review

Price - Rs. 2290 for 30 ml (Nepalese rupees). Sadly the price of the product has upgraded even more now.

Product description: Pre-moisturizer treatment for continuous, enhanced moisturisation and protection.

Shelf life: Don’t ever forget to check the production and expiry date of the product. You can check the shelf life through the batch code. Normally, there are 7 or 6 character batch numbers. You can use the following link to check the shelf life of cosmetic products.
http://www.checkfresh.com/

Batch code: XL705LB

Generally, the skincare products have life of minimum 3 years. So, that means I can use it before 2017-07 and once you open it, its better you finish it before 12 months (as indicated in the box type symbol in the product).

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Serum batch code

The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Serum PAO

Packaging – This comes in a small bottle, which is really good for travelling. The pump head has an easy dispenser and a lid for hygiene. The transparent bottle makes it easier to see the left amount.

Ingredients – You can see the ingredients list when you tear the upper layer of the sticker. Make a habit of checking the ingredients before buying since you don’t want your skin to suffer from harmful chemicals. I will post in details about the chemicals used in cosmetics products in my upcoming post.
The Body Shop Vitamin E Moisture Serum Ingredients

My experience: I thought of using this product when I noticed dry patches around my nose. The liquid is transparent in color and absorb quickly into the skin. It has a very light fragrance; I barely can notice its smell. After a few days of applying, my skin feels very soft, refreshed and all by dry patches has magically vanished.

The product really does what it says, but it definitely takes a few weeks to see the actual result. I use it every morning and night before my moisturizer (body shop aloe vera moisturizer) .

One pump is enough for the whole face, it last about 2 months.  I thought to know about how long the product really works even when it is not used. So, I stop using it for about 1 week and I again start noticing the dry patches around my nose. That was really a turnover for me about this product. But, beside this everything deserve a thumbs up.

Pros:
-          Absorb quickly in skin
-          Well moisturized skin
-          Fine line reduced

-          best for dry skin
-          Travel friendly
-          Skin feel refreshed
-          No animal tested

Cons:
-          It is very expensive
-          Packaging isn’t too portable
-          Product effect doesn’t last long

Conclusion: I definitely recommend everyone to try this serum. This can be used by any skin type, but as I have said you must have a passion to see the result.

It would have been better if every expensive product would provide the mini tester sample so that our big budget investment would not be worthless.

My Rating: 4/5
